The Evangelical Alliance is committed to developing public leaders across the UK. Through sharing resources and inspirational stories on our new public leadership website, and providing training to churches across the UK.
We want the church to have a strong culture of public leadership and we are determined to see God's people become effective voices for good in society. We believe the church can raise up voices for good and for God.
Public leadership is about taking responsibility, it is about know we speak and act under the authority of God, it is about caring for the place God has put us in and stepping up, speaking out and engaging in public life. It means taking our place as leaders in politics, the media and all parts of society.
1 Corinthians 1v26 says: "Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But..."
That verse motivates the Evangelical Alliance's public leadership programme, a desire for men and women across the country to recognise God may be calling them to places they don't feel equipped for or ready to go to. But, there are places across society that are in urgent need of leadership. Think of the loss of trust in politics, journalism, banking, in the church, think of the need for leaders with integrity and purpose who are committed to speaking up for the good of all.
The public leadership website includes stories of local leaders like Lloyd Cooke and Billy Kennedy who are committed to transforming the place they live, as well as campaigners such as Ann-Marie Wilson fighting the scourge of FGM, and leaders in other areas of society, including college principal Stella Mbubaegbu. There are also inspirational examples from abroad including Mac Pier from New York and Harrald Sommerfeld from Berlin.
Resources are available on the website to help churches think about how they can create a culture of public leadership, and to motivate Christians to take steps to becoming public leaders.
The Alliance is committed to bringing about this change of culture and we would love to visit your church to speak or run a training day, please get in touch if interested.
