Nathaniel Jennings, Northern Ireland

Nathaniel Jennings grew up in Bangladesh where his parents were involved in social and development work. He did his secondary education in Manchester and went to university in London, studying South Asian History at SOAS. He returned to Bangladesh to teach at an international school in Dhaka where he met his wife Donna from Northern Ireland. Whilst preparing to return to Bangladesh to serve with SIM, Nathaniel did his Masters degree through Queens University Belfast with his dissertation focusing on church in Muslim contexts. For the last 10 years Nathaniel has been OMF's area representative for Ireland based in Belfast and often involved in teaching on mission and world religions at local theological colleges.

How can we reconcile racial injustice as a church?

1 October 2024I carry my colour from my grandad’s genes, which has affected the way I have experienced life here. I have experienced some of the racism he experienced, although far less overt. School playground name calling, low expectations from teachers and being treated with suspicion in airports were just some of my experiences.
