Remembering Sheena Gillies

The Evangelical Alliance joined many others in expressing great sadness Sheena Gilliesfollowing the unexpected death of Sheena Gillies in October.  Sheena, a well known Christian leader, author and speaker had been a Board and Council member for the Evangelical Alliance since the early 1990s and was a great ambassador for the  Alliance's work.

She chaired the Alliance's membership committee where her wide knowledge of the evangelical world was immensely valuable. She was on the appointments committee that recruited Joel Edwards as General Director in 1997 and was a speaker at the 1996 and 2001 Assemblies of Evangelicals.

She undertook some of the preliminary work for the programme now known as Biblefresh which draws together over 40 Christian agencies to encourage Christians across the UK to a deeper level of engagement with the Bible.

Sheena was Director of Missionary Development and Care for SIM UK. She also worked for UCCF, Capernwray Hall and London Bible College in addition to being a trustee for a number of Christian charities. Sheena served in a number of churches including All Souls Langham Place and was involved in discipleship training, pastoral work and cross-cultural mission.  She was a well known speaker at Christian events including Spring Harvest and Word Alive and author of 'Get the most out of church' and co-author of 'Single Issues'.

Steve Clifford, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance, said: "Sheena was a wonderful role model of a female Christian leader. Her death is a huge loss to the evangelical world."
