"Man ALIVE Studios" was set up in October of 2006 by my two business partners, Stuart Hamilton and James Law, and myself. The company had very humble beginnings. James Law had a first class degree in animation, but neither Stuart nor myself had any qualifications in media whatsoever. The three of us met at the "Gate Church International" in Dundee while we were still students, and discovered a shared passion for film and television, which turned into a hobby of making silly short films for fun (some of which you can still find on our youtube account).
Dundee has quite a strong media community, with a successful video games industry and a number of growing web companies, but there was very little in the way of options for somebody looking to get involved in television or film. We decided to just go out on a limb and see if we could start producing films for people for money, and things grew from there!
In the relatively short time since then, we've worked for a variety of different clients, including the Care Commission, the Scottish Social Work Department, the NHS, local authorities, universities and a number of small charities.
We've also maintained that drive to create entertainment for television and film, and have entered a number of short films into different competitions. Last year, we won the international "Comedy Smalls" competition (run in association with Paramount Comedy), for which the prize was to have your short film broadcast on the Paramount Comedy channel (now Comedy Central) and to have work commissioned by Comedy Central. We are expecting to develop something with them in the next few months.
In these times, the popular media has become one of the most powerful tools of influence in our nation. So, as Christians, we feel that it is important for people to stand up in this industry and provide a God-centred alternative to all the other voices out there. Much of what we produce is not overtly Christian material, but we bring principles and standards to our work that are not normally found in most modern productions.
