Matt Redman receives ASCAP Award for Our God

On 3 November Matt Redman was among the winners attending the 31st annual ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Matt received the prestigious award for the song Our God, which was judged to be one of the most impacting songs on American radio in 2010 by a British writer. The song, co-written with Jonas Myrin, Chris Tomlin and Jesse Reeves, has become increasingly popular in many worship services around the world too.

Among others celebrated during the evening were U2 for I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Paul McCartney for Come Together, Taio Cruz for Dynamite and Coldplay for Viva La Vida.

Les Moir (Kingsway Head of A&R) accompanied Matt to this year's ceremony and commented: "What an encouragement to pick up an ASCAP award with Matt for Our God! It's wonderful to see a worship song sitting alongside all these other great songs from today's culture."

Matt said: "It was such a special evening, and honestly a bit surreal to be invited there alongside all these influential songwriters I've looked up to for years. The highlight for me was the video clip of Our God they showed as we walked up to receive the award. It was amazing to hear that song of worship being played in an environment I would never have dreamt of hearing it in."

This was not Matt's first award ceremony this year - in February he attended the Grammys where he was nominated for Best Gospel Song. Nor is this his first ASCAP: in 2009 he was awarded Christian Songwriter of the Year.

The Alliance congratulates Matt on his well-deserved award.
