Could you become a Roofbreaker?

Alliance member Through the Roof is calling for more Roofbreakers in church.

The charity which works with those with disabilities has just signed up the 100th Roofbreaker.

Roofbreakers help those with disabilities belong and participate in the life of the church.

Through the Roof's newest Roofbreaker, Lisa, said: "I signed up because my husband has a condition called Charcot Marie Tooth and uses a wheelchair. Our youngest daughter has also inherited the condition and has mild learning difficulties too.

"Over the years we've had experience of some of the challenges people with disabilities face in churches and also at large Christian events, as well as in day to day life.

"I am currently training for ordination and one of my interests is in making church fully accessible to all and allowing everyone to develop their God-given gifts."

Through the Roof trains and equips churches and other organisations to be inclusive of people with any disability.

Roofbreakers also help churches to be a welcoming and inclusive space for disabled people and their families.

The charity is hoping to sign up 1,000 Roofbreakers.

New Roofbreakers get a starter kit from Through the Roof, as well as a free starter kit and a monthly email with information, ideas and inspiration.

They are also linked to a network of other Roofbreakers in their area so they can meet for fellowship, prayer and to share ideas. If you'd like to find out more about becoming a Roofbreaker, visit the Through the Roof website.

As a member of the Evangelical Alliance, Through the Roof is one of 600 organisations supported by the Alliance. We facilitate members' initiatives and campaigns and offer support to increase their impact. Member organisations have an opportunity to speak to the media on behalf of our membership, as we direct media and information enquiries to member organisations best placed to deal with them. The Alliance also provides training for organisations on how to engage with the local government and media.
