Christians in construction unite to work in a different way

Christians in construction work have established a new network to support each other and benefit churches.

The newly-formed Corinthian network aims to support each other in the construction industry and provide Christian construction teams to build new church buildings and other projects.

Construction industry professionals work in a variety of different roles: project managers, architects, building surveyors, quantity surveyors, structural engineers, party wall surveyors, CDM co-ordinators, building contractors and material or service suppliers.

Knowing that churches and Christian projects can be charged excessive costs and fees by consultants and contractors, the network aims to support those that seek to be transparent, fair and good value.

The Corinthian Network, with its name taken from 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, will help churches apply sound business principles to property planning or deal with financial arrangements for their development or maintenance work. They are hoping to establish a portfolio of church clients and develop a way to check the integrity of contractors.

Ralph Hilton, a chartered building surveyor and Corinthian Network leader, said: "We are actively seeking to join those who will 'walk the walk' not just 'talk the talk'. I am excited that more connections are being made across the industry and would love to see more churches benefit from Christian teams in many regions.

"We are stepping out to be different. Many developers and contractors try to maximise their profits and we want to ensure that those associated with our network cap their profits at a certain level in order to benefit church clients. We are looking into ways churches can use their buildings or land to finance and grow church work and outreach. God is looking for those who are prepared to do the seemingly ridiculous, so that he can do the miraculous."

Corinthian consultants and contractors will give of their time, advice and money to charity by donating part of their fees or turnover to Ministries Without Borders, a Christian charity for UK and overseas aid, and occasionally helping church clients free of charge to an agreed extent.
