Christian Aid photos auctioned for charity

Photographers are auctioning photographs taken on assignment with Christian Aid in an online auction that will run through November to mark the charity’s 70th anniversary.

Photographers including Sebastião Salgado, Don McCullin, Tom Stoddart and Tim Hetherington chose seven of their favourite images from overseas assignments for the online gallery, which will also raise awareness of Christian Aid’s work and raise funds.

Christian Aid works in some of the world’s poorest communities, acting to help people live life free from poverty. Joseph Cabon, senior photographic editor at Christian Aid, said: “Over our 70 year history we have had the privilege of working with some of the world’s most prestigious photographers to highlight the challenges faced by poor communities around the word.”

Prints are being auctioned with the reserve price starting at £500 for a signed print.

Photographer Sebastião Salgado spoke of his work with Christian Aid: “Christian Aid was the first institution to participate with me on my stories. And to me it is very important that this institution, with its moral and ethical stance, has been a very nice partner all my life long.”
