A prayer for the Middle East

A prayer for the Middle East - by Fred Drummond, director of prayer, Evangelical Alliance.

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for your grace.
We thank you for every sign of your love around us
You scatter blessing like diamonds that sparkle even In the darkest places.
We thank you that nothing escapes your notice and you hear the cries of the weak, marginalised and broken.
You call the weak and those with heavy burdens to come to you and find rest.
Today we pray for the Middle East, we pray for peace, we ask that those who seek evil would be thwarted by love.
We ask for justice to flow into every sector of society and hope to rise.
We pray that hatred would be replaced by mercy and enmity by forgiveness.
Lord, we ask for leaders to rise up with courage and conviction, pointing to a better future.
Lord, we feel weak but we know that you are able, and you are rich in compassion.
Our God we pray for all who are persecuted, tortured, and abused by others. May we become the voice for those too frighten to speak.
Let us never forget the plight of others.
We especially remember our brothers and sisters in the Middle East who have lost all things for your sake. Fill them with a knowledge of your presence and grant to them a peace which is beyond all understanding.

Lord have mercy.

In Jesus name
Amen
