Marriage Week NI

Marriage: an archaic tradition, a flimsy piece of paper, a middle-class luxury...or is there more to the institution of marriage than meets the eye of prevailing culture?

Despite the name, the work of Marriage Week NI happens all year round but peaks during National Marriage Week, occurring in February each year.

Marriage Week NI is about:

  • Encouraging churches across Northern Ireland to support marriage - both in their congregations and local communities.
  • Equipping churches in this work by highlighting a wide range of available resources, research, and training opportunities.
  • Engaging with wider society to show how we can help build stronger communities through preparing, enriching and supporting marriages.

The Evangelical Alliance in Northern Ireland holds events each year during Marriage Week. In 2011 we published a major report on the state of marriage in the Church in Northern Ireland.
