Prayer for Lambeth 16/07/2008
As the Evangelical Alliance, we have observed with sadness the way in which the debates within the Anglican Communion have been portrayed in the press. Our fear is that the central cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ has not been furthered by the tone in which these discussions have taken place. We are concerned that some too readily seek to define who is and who is not an evangelical Anglican. We are worried that others may be using language that is inappropriate to describe their brothers and sisters in Christ.

The Charity Commission’s consultation on Public Benefit and the Advancement of Religion ended on 30th June. The Evangelical Alliance has generally welcomed the new Act and has broadly supported the new concept of charities in future having to demonstrate their contribution to public benefit rather than it being presumed as in the past.

In his 2007 Christmas message, the Rev Joel Edwards has called on Christians and non Christians alike to be tolerant of each other. The General Director of the Evangelical Alliance has addressed the question of how we embrace and worship Christ while living in multi-faith communities.  He said that tolerance means people who are free not to worship should avoid making life difficult for those of us who do, but also called on Christians not to respond aggressively. "We must resist the urge to react to any belittling of our belief or our intellect with aggression."
